A woman came up to me at the dance last night and told me that she missed my presence while I was away, and that she enjoyed watching me dance and what I did to the dance. I was dumbstruck. Within a minute I was high on her words, but I had this moment of flat out incomprehension. I think I looked like a fish gasping for air.

What she said lifted me up and did something beautiful to my dance. I had confidence that I could move however, and I turned out to be right. I was aware that people were watching because they liked what they saw. I felt connected to everything in the room and ease in my motion.

I remember doing things that I'm pretty sure can't be done. I'm not sure how much is "I'm wrong about what's possible", and "when I'm high I don't remember things very accurately" (and how much is a pomo "if that's what you remember, that's what happened for you").

It was three hours of euphoria. Every now and then I think that I could give up coding for dance. I think I'd go nuts within a month, but I'd have a wonderful month til then.

Late in the night I shared a lovely dance with her; lightness, ease, flow, and joy. I even had the guts to approach Neige for a dance (when I grow up I want to dance like Neige). Sometime around the middle someone asked me if I would teach her CI. It's surprising that my ego fits through doors just now...

Just moments ago I was wondering what ever happened to you and if you forgot to come back from Paris or drowned yourself in election woes or something.

You deserve these compliments. Will you teach me CI? Actually, you've already given me some fine lessons. I bet I could weasel more out of you if I ply you with . . . actually I don't know what you like to be plied with. Ooh, and Singer-Songwriter is actually going to do a four week CI class series here. I dance with her almost every week anyway, but I'm so looking forward to a more focused intentionally educational setting.

Yes. I will teach you CI. When we're in the same town and all, but yes. If you have something that you want to work on, or if you're looking for what I think you should know, or if you want to just mess about. I like dancing with you, and I'm happy to throw pedagogy into it.
Plus I'd love to see the results of a class in you.

And yes, a little bit of election related drowning, but the big thing was that I got back from Paris, then 4 days later went to Ohio, 2 days later I flew back, then I was sick. If you are ever faced with the possibility of flying three times within one week, try to find another option.

I'm a traditionalist; I like to be plied with wine, women, and song. Well, wine isn't really that high on my list. And song is so frequently over-rated....

Last March in the space of about a week I flew from Santa Barbara to Montreal then back to Santa Barbara then to Boston then back to Santa Barbara. It wasn't very clever of me. I think this March I'll just fly to Montreal and stay there for a week and then fly back to Santa Barbara.

I look forward to dancing with and learning from you. One of these days I'll even look into buying the plane tickets so that I can actually be in the Boston area for the winter holidays.

I wouldn't have pegged you as a "traditionalist." I don't have much song. I am able to acquire wine. And I only have a very limited supply of women at my disposal . . .

Oh my goodness! You poor thing. We'll have to feed you retroactive chicken soup. The new plan sounds like a fairly good one, though I happen to think that Boston is much more fun than Montreal (I've talked to people who love it, and think of it as a party town. I just don't see it.).

I do too. I think that you'll like the Sunday Jam series, it's much smaller, and more airy, much more open to experimentation. Also, you should come to our Jewish Christmas Party, we eat chinese food, watch movies, hang out....

And I suppose that it depends on just how far back your tradition goes. Mine isn't so worried about quantity as quality.

lightcastle lives in Montreal, not Boston - and I haven't been there since last March, whereas I obviously have been to Boston (and will be again in December).

It's somehow hard for me to motivate to get to, especially when I am vehicularly limited, relying on the uses of others cars as I do. If I had only known back when

redheadedmuse was living in Arlington centre and thus I was spending great heaps of my Boston time there. But I will try to get to it.

Sounds like fun. And I am conveniently Jewish. On Christmas day? This used to be impossible for me due to family obligations, but there's a good chance the Christmas celebrating part of the family will be doing it on imaginary Christmas. Oh, I think I have general permission to make invitations to

amadea's New Years Eve party. Dunno if you and yours have plans, but I suspect you'd enjoy the crowd.

As for the Sunday jam, it may not have been happening when you were about. I missed the first Sunday jam as it was opposite Arisia 2004. It's still another's car and all, but I'd be happy to help you get there.

I find it interesting that none of the people who come to the jam live all that close to it. I know a couple who drive past the Sunday jam to come to week night dances in Cambridge. I know a woman who was been making noises about being interested in CI for a while and who lives (well, ok, her boyfriend lives, but she's there a lot) 3 blocks from the jam. She hasn't made it yet. We have regulars from Dorchester, JP, Brookline...

Do you think that Karl Frost should teach me CI, too? Have you heard of the guy? I went to my first class last night where I found out that in about ten days he'll be in town to do a class. I want to know if he's worth my Saturday and my $40. I suspect he is, since about the worst thing that will happen is that I'll dance all day. They're apparently having trouble getting enough pre-registration to convince him to drive down, though, so I should decide.

Not until just now. Looking around on Google, he seems to have taught a generation that is just now becoming teachers themselves (including last night's DJ @ Dance Freedom. If I'd checked my journal earlier I could have asked him (hmm, actually, no, looking at the time, I was already there when this went up))).

The comments that I see regarding him make me think he's a bit heavier on the "Your hip goes here, your arm goes here, then push" side than I would like. To be fair though, I came to CI with a fair appreciation of how to get my body to do things, my issues have generally been with letting go, and not "doing moves" but dancing, and letting go of what "should" happen.

FWIW, I'd probably take the class if it were in Boston, but I'm not in grad school anymore so it's much less of my free time being invested.

Thanks for your input. I feel a bit silly, because I do know how to use Google myself, although I wouldn't recognize names of his students. Sounds like a very different teaching style than what I got Wednesday night, which was more like "You might want your hip to go places." I think I will take the class. I might be in grad school, but I'm way too excited about dancing.
