danceboyThese past few months I've been going through my library reading the books that I bought years ago, but never read. For the most part, these books have been terrible (e.g. "Coriolanus, the chariot" by Alan Yates started out with a vaguely interesting premise, then just became bad. (No, worse that that. When one character asks "Are you sure you want to do that?" the other senses a trap. I'm not kidding.) "Imperial Stars" was so bad that I started to doubt Doc Smith. Turns out someone else expanded the late Doc's story into a novel).
Anyway, I'm in the middle of "Stochastic man" by Robert Silverberg. It's about a man who can kind of see into the future. Written in the 70s it's set in the mid 90s NYC. At one point the protagonist goes to a party that occupies an entire floor of a skyscraper. On one side the view is blocked by the twin towers. On the other side the windows are opaqued so that people don't see the crater where the statue of liberty used to be.
I put the book down and cried.
