I finally ran a sub 4 hour marathon! by less than 15 seconds... This was my third swing at 4 hours, my last two marathons were 4:01:11 and 4:00:16.
ricevermicelli also ran her first half at the same time!
Due to the way the courses were set up, and our respective speeds, we managed to get a quick smooch in mid-race as we were coming at each other over a bridge. Then she was sensible at the end and limited herself to yelling and clapping when she saw me in the last mile.

Jul. 12th, 2010 03:32 pmDuring my run today it felt like some ad exec was trying to work out how to market weather to generation X.
I've been in sun thunderstorms before, but never without rain, and never quite this, well, extreme...
Also, no weather condition lasted more than about 10 minutes (hmm, or maybe the weather was very localized. I was moving about a mile in 10 minutes...).
All New Xtreme Sunshowers! Thunder! Lightning! Rain! Sun!!!
Also available in diet! with absolutely 0 raindrops!

So I raced a triathlon
Aug. 17th, 2009 05:49 pmDoes anyone know the correct verb for that? "Raced" sounds wrong, "did" is just a tad generic, "ran" is incomplete...
Anyway, it was good. I didn't drown, and I finished in 1:29:43 (unofficial) over a 1/2 mile swim, 10 mile bike, and 4 mile run.
( Details... )

May. 9th, 2009 09:59 pmSo I've started training for a triathlon, and what that really seems to mean so far is that I've taken 4 showers today...
26.2 miles
Oct. 19th, 2008 04:32 pmI had some goals going into this marathon. Goal 1 was to finish. Goal 2 was to not finish last. Goal 3 was to beat five hours. After that, things got hazy.
I accomplished all 3 of my goals. I took something like 4 hours and 50 minutes to run 26.2 miles (yes, I am that slow), but I did it. If you see me limping for the next week, well, yeah.
I'm thrilled that I managed it, and I'm in pain...
Edit: Official results are in; 4:50:52.

Apr. 18th, 2008 10:30 pmThere are runners, strong willed and stern enough to not gratuitously run in the road simply in order to run across the Boston Marathon finish line / gate / thing, particularly when they've only run about a third of the proper distance.
I am not one of those runners.
It felt surprisingly good. The cop had this "Great, another idiot in the road" look. And the two miles I had left were just plain easy...

Mar. 3rd, 2008 10:30 pm+ Ran 100 miles
+ Turned 35
- Discovered I am now a "Men's small"
+ Performed on the lyra for the second time. Performed really well for the first time.
+ 102 miles actually.
+ Watched
schr0dinger go from cruising to basically walking. Now that it's March, he's just plain walking. Sometimes.
- Chased wildly after
schr0dinger trying to keep him alive
+ 102.2 to be precise...
+ Felt my rotator cuff improve significantly
+ Snuggled
ricevermicelli lots
February was a good month.

Nov. 30th, 2006 06:30 pmToday I discovered that leaves are more dangerous to a jogger than black ice. Thanks to Sensei Gold, I managed to convert a face plant into a forward roll, and come up, well, not exactly jogging, but faster than a walk. Wobblier too.
Other things from today's jog:
For all that the weather was amazing, it was a hard jog. I haven't run in almost two weeks due to a severe case of being in London, so after 3 miles I turned around and came back.
Other things from today's jog:
- I saw what I expect to be my last bikini-clad sunbather of the year.
- Boston has put out it's creche in the commons. Not too surprising, except in relation to the previous item.
- I passed a friend of mine who was talking about me on his cell as I jogged past him. Last night as we left the jam together we were discussing who was stalking whom...

Oct. 16th, 2006 01:43 pmOn March 19th I ran my first road race, a 5K at a pace of 8:28 per mile.
Yesterday I ran my second race, a 10K at a pace of 8:44 per mile.
Extrapolating wildly from two data points, this implies that I will take a break of about 4 hours and 3 minutes during Arisia 2008 to run a marathon (at a pace of 9:18 per mile). That is 53 minutes shy of qualifying for the boston marathon. If I were to wait a month until I turned 35, it would be 48 minutes shy.
All of which is to say that I don't run that fast...

Feb. 7th, 2005 03:10 pmOn Saturday I went for a jog. I'm moving along, enjoying the (relative) warmth & sun when I notice that the scenery looks awfully familiar.
And something's wrong.
The scenery isn't moving.
So I look down, and discover that I'm running in place on a patch of black ice. I slowed down to a walk, and gingerly stepped off of it. Then I kept running.
I was happy that I didn't land on my ass, but I felt that it would have been appropriate.
I was struck by the simultaneous applicability of "You wascally wabbit!" (well, specifically a piece in which Bugs described how he made those speed lines occur in the air) & "To move quickly, slow down.".
