I feel vaguely like I'm giving in to peer pressure by doing this, but I also feel like I must write about Arisia.
The setup: varying levels of sick for weeks with the lung crud of doom coming and going. As it hit new heights of crud, I get news that my job at Arisia (Party Czar) will be more stressful than usual due to the hotel getting way picky about a bunch of things. Then there's actually doing that job (which is double what it usually is for a variety of reasons).
The con itself was great. I've felt for years that the Party Czar needed a silly hat, so I finally got one. Well, two.

Down sides:
In all, it was not my favorite Arisia ever, but it was wonderful.

High points:
- lacing
ricevermicelli into her deeply sexy red corset, and a transparent "skirt". We walked into a shop on Dealer's Row and asked for "a tiny little excuse for a skirt" and got the most amazing service from the nice young man who worked there... - dancing friday with an ex-pro-track ballet dancer who had to stop when she caught polio. She leads a much less aerobic lifestyle now, just wheel chair jogging and such...
- same dance, capoeira with a big blond bear of a guy with a matrix style coat.
- same dance, holding
nchanter up so that cool-not-quite-chain-mail guy could detach her belt from the shoulder of my shirt. It was silly & sweet in a teenagers locking braces kind of way. - bumping into
lightcastle. This world is about 12 feet around.... - the "test" party on Friday to see if they remembered how to mix their beverage. They did.
- party hopping with
learnedax &
anu3bis. I bow before the master. - petting
nchanter - anime girl and boy firing blasters at each other and deflecting the shots with their lightsaber.
- dancing with
ladysprite on saturday. Wondrous mix of swing & contact. We must dance more. I kept feeling like there was something just past where we were that we just kept missing. Darn, have to try again... - dancing barefoot until my feet bled (truly sorry excuse for a dance floor), applying bandages, jazz slippers, and dancing for two more hours. I stopped before 5. The dance didn't. DJ Johnny Zed rocks my world.
- the Skank Saloon. Any party that has a hostess labelled "Skank in Chief" is a good thing.
- the lovely energy the place had on Sunday. I'd been planning to go home around 3 or 4, but the con kept going with an upbeat "We're stuck at a con. Oh no. The horror.", and so the Party Czar had work to do ("dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.")
- catching up with friends I haven't seen since last Arisia. Hmm, must fix that...
- the naughty nurses encouraging people to give blood.
Down sides:
- I kept feeling "This is fun, but Arisia is better." It was a blast, but enough people cancelled due to snow fears that it just didn't have that "slightly too full, and that's good" feel to it.
- carpet for one dance, evil weird metal & wood floor for the other. I hadn't realized how much I appreciate good wooden floors.
- sleeping on a schedule that was almost disjoint from
ricevermicelli - missing people who I think would have enjoyed it no end (
queen_of_wands isn't the only one, but she is the first to spring to mind) - lack of a sufficiently bad DJ to force
ladysprite to improvise an alternative dance.
In all, it was not my favorite Arisia ever, but it was wonderful.
