Feb. 15th, 2008 10:18 pmShort version: WoSaT is available on torrent sites. It's legal with what looks to me like a CC by-nc-nd license.
Long version: Have you ever bemoaned how a movie suffers from too many cooks, and not enough geeky hand-done special effects? Want a movie made by one guy, in his garage, while his producer skipped town with the capital and killed distribution, about, oddly enough, one guy, making a movie in his garage while the producers attempted to steal the capital and kill distribution?
Have you ever thought that it might be a good idea for the creator of an unavailable movie to release it free so as to create interest and possibly allow him to do something new?
Either way, Mike Jittlov has released his film "The Wizard of Speed and Time" on various torrent sites. He requests that, should you be interested in hearing more about his projects, you send him your email address.
I've been looking for a statement on his site as proof that he is behind this, and I can't find one, but A) his site hasn't been updated in years, and B) there's a bunch of people on the web who claim that they've talked to him and he is, in fact, behind this. So either there's a conspiracy, or it's really him. It has a "Special Karma Calming Notice", and we all know that those can't be faked...
Among other places, it is available at http://www.mininova.org/tor/347217
I'll be bringing a few copies to hot foods.

Date: 2008-02-16 07:54 pm (UTC)there's a newer version of the LD, that he had made up, and of course, always the chance he's tinkering with edits :>
some years ago now, he spoke at Harvard, and i believe he was tape/recorded by the club. he showed his special LD there. he went on at great length about many things including "if you like this movie, give away copies". he's pretty adamant about it.

Date: 2008-02-17 03:39 am (UTC)I heard claims of edits (mostly cleaning things up), but it can't have been anything too large, or I think I'd have noticed.
It would be nice if his website had anything useful at all, like a link to the torrent, or his speaking schedule, or you know anything from the last 5 years...

Date: 2008-02-17 07:35 pm (UTC)i don't know what the edits ARE, i think some FAQ had the list, and yah, it's not major different, but i THINK i noticed something from the original i have... it might be the one everyone is seeing IS the edit, so it's hard to diff :) the list of all the subliminals to step through is keen though!!!
he has kind of vanished, again or something, but the fans have not at least.
thanx for doing that!

Date: 2008-02-19 09:40 pm (UTC)I hope you didn't change your plans to effect the trade off, but I'm just not going to be able to hit the Diesel today. I haven't even had a chance to check here until now...
I'll be seeing someone who might be there later. If so, and she's amenable, I'll send it over with her.
Be well.

Date: 2008-02-18 02:18 am (UTC)The thing I'm really looking for, though, is a copy of the soundtrack CD he and John Massari (who did most of the music for Jittlov's films) put out several years ago. I got a copy when it was available, and some time later when I went to rip it, I discovered it was no longer readable, and a few minutes after that, I discovered it was out of print. :-(

Date: 2008-02-18 09:17 pm (UTC)I can not help you with the soundtrack, except to say that there are some cd ripping apps for linux that are designed to read unreadable cds (I had a cd that you could look at and tell was probably done for. I got the music off of it.)...

Date: 2008-02-20 04:51 pm (UTC)if not that, a disc polisher? worth some effort at least. yah, i'm assuming it's not terribly scratched, just oddly bit rotted.

Date: 2008-02-21 02:34 pm (UTC)Hmm, have you tried writing Massari? Being a paid customer and all, they might be willing to hunt down a spare for you...
Good luck.
