Question for people

Is thermal mass equal to mass times a (units changing) constant? I.E. is the thermal mass of one 12 kg object equal to that of every other 12 kg object? I've asked a few people who I thought would know (chemical, civil, and mechanical engineers. No, I haven't been able to find a materials scientist.), and all of them said roughly "I think so. I mean, it sounds likely...."

Mind you I've forgotten why I cared in the first place, but care I do.

While we're on the subject of asking random questions; I don't understand what's going on with titanium in hammers and other impact tools (e.g. golf clubs).
I'm guessing that it's just marketing, but they're claiming that a similar sized Ti head will hit harder and be less work to swing. I believe that second part. I even believe that due to KE = 1/2mv^2 a titanium head will have more KE, but I think that inertia is the important thing here (by extrapolation to a dowel with a band of steel wrapped around the end to prevent splitting).

I can also see an advantage to a hammer that doesn't rust, and that doesn't get dinged up if you toss it into your tool box. Further, I think that giving Russia money right now is not a bad thing. I just don't really see a direct advantage for the hand holding the hammer.

I don't have the proper background knowledge for your question to even make sense. But since nobody seems to be answering, I could post a link to your post from my journal. I find that I have the proper set of readers to answer questions ranging from "what has kink got to do with altered states of consciousness?" to "how can I preserve lots of aloe vera gel?" and knowing I've got scientists and mathematicians who have access to my journal, I bet someone among them has got your answers (although a large subset of these people have been unable to answer questions like "what's the word for history in the future?" so there is a limit to their cleverness).

Hmm, Heinlein referred to a fair chunk of the stories he wrote as his "future history". That is to say, he wrote stories that he thought would make sense as the history of the future (stuff that hasn't happened yet, but that he though should happen in the next couple of hundred years (where is my flying car?!)).

As for some of your other questions, I've been shying away from checking my friends list at work (http sniffing) and I've been really sucking at checking it at home, but has Diesel Fuel been suggested yet? It's not really altered consciousness per se, but it touches on it more than a bit, and I'm a sucker for poetry...

Diesel Fuel. Had to think about this a bit. A combination of the name of a cafe that doesn't exist anymore in the Boston area and one that does? No, that can't be what he means. Is he suggesting chemical means of changing consciousness? Or maybe he thinks I need a preservative for my aloe, but . . . Oh! . . . checking Amazon . . . Nope, nobody's suggested that, but they have suggested other Califia. Thanks.
